RECEIVES
NATIONAL RECOGNITION
At the International Marina and
Boatyard Conference held in Fort Lauderdale on January 25th
through 28th, 2009, it was announced at a special award
ceremony that Fishermen's Village Yacht Basin was selected
as the 2008 "Marina of the Year" by Marina Dock
Age, which is the only national trade publication
representing over 17,000 marinas. The selection was
based upon facilities improvements, customer satisfaction,
marketing, environmental responsibility, local and national
industry involvement, and benefit to the Punta Gorda
community. The magazine's editor, Jerry Koncel stated
Fishermen's Village Yacht Basin excelled in all these
areas.
In describing why Fishermen's Village
Yacht Basin won this national award, Koncel praised the
marina's vision and persistence in the face of some very
daunting challenges. "Fishermen's Village yacht
Basin suffered more than $3.5 million in damages in 2004
when Hurricane Charley roared through the town in
August. Since that time, Jim Branch (marina
harbormaster) and his staff have done a remarkable job of
rebuilding and reconfiguring the marina," Koncel said.
The magazine also cited the marina
for its outstanding customer service and outstanding
environmental programs. Branch noted that all the
employees of Fishermen's Village Yacht Basin are retirees
who enjoy dealing with customers and share a passion for
boating and the marina lifestyle.
Marina Dock Age was also very
impressed with the marina's efforts to ensure a clean and
safe environment for its customers. Fishermen's
Village Yacht Basin has been certified as a Clean Marina by
the state of Florida, recognizing that the marina is
operating its business in an environmentally conscious
manner.
In his acceptance remarks made at the
conference, Harbormaster Branch stated that the recognition
as Marina of the Year was particularly gratifying in that
Fishermen's Village Yacht Basin has been in operation for
only two years, having been closed for a major renovation
for three years. He further stated that the award was
due in large part to the excellent staff at the Yacht Basin.

Welcome
to the Yacht Basin at Fishermen’s Village, located on beautiful
Charlotte Harbor and in historic Punta Gorda. Our
marina has been recently dredged and rebuilt. We offer
111 permanent slips for public use, of which 97 are available
for transient or long-term stays, and 31 temporary, free
docking areas for day use of vessels visiting our mall,
shops and restaurants. In addition, we have a long
dinghy dock for use of vessels anchoring in the Harbor,
and wishing to use our marina facilities. The Yacht
Basin accepts live-aboards and boat club visits are our
specialty. Fishermen Village Yacht Basin has been awarded
"CLEAN MARINA" status from the State of Florida.
The Yacht Basin entrance channel
is approximately -7.5 feet deep at MLW and our slip depth
varies from -7.5 to -3.5 feet at MLW. One-half of
our slips can accommodate vessels up to 56 feet in length.
Side-ties can accommodate larger vessels needing 100 amp
electrical service.
Each slip has a trash container, dock
box, 30 and 50 amp electrical (metered), potable water,
cable TV, and Wi-Fi internet service. We provide daily
trash pick-up and wastewater holding tank pump outs at the
slips. Our docks are gated with 24-hour security.
Shore facilities include a laundry and shower facility;
boaters’ day room with phone, mailboxes, kitchenette, big
screen TV, and tables for group gatherings; Harbormaster’s
office and ships store; heated swimming pool; tennis courts;
picnic areas with gas and charcoal grills; and parking adjacent
to the marina. Bicycles are available for short rides
into town along a shoreline park.
Our fuel dock features ValvTect marine
mid-grade gasoline and diesel fuel, oil, wastewater pump
outs, restrooms, drinks, snacks, bait, and ice. (See

Fishermen’s
Village Yacht Basin is located in upper Charlotte Harbor
near the confluence of the Peace River. Our outer
channel marker (red #2) coordinates are 26
degrees, 56.1 minutes North, 82 degrees, 04.4 minutes West.

VILLAGE YACHT BASIN TO LOAN FREE LIFE JACKETS TO KIDS
Fishermen’s
Village Yacht Basin, located in upper Charlotte Harbor,
Punta Gorda, is helping kids keep safe while on the water by
participating in the BoatU.S. Foundation Life Jacket Loaner Program for Kids! This program, made possible by the BoatU.S. Foundation
for Boating Safety and Clean Water, allows boaters to borrow
a child’s life jacket for the day or weekend, at no
charge.
If
a boating family discovers they don’t have enough
properly-fitting children’s life jackets on board, they
can simply visit Fishermen’s Village Yacht Basin and sign
out infant, child, or youth jackets.
When finished boating, they can return the jackets.
If
you would like to borrow one or more life jackets, simply
stop by Fishermen’s village Yacht Basin by car or boat
between the hours of 7:00 – 5:30 PM any day of the week.

VILLAGE DESIGNATED A "CLEAN MARINA"
Fishermen's Village Yacht Basin was
originally designated a "Clean Marina" in 2006 by
the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and this
designation has been renewed each year. Clean Marina
status requires significant effort in the areas of solid
waste, fuel storage, sewage, and habitat management. In
addition, Yacht Basin staff must be trained for
emergencies such as fuel spills and fire safety.
